About the G310R230

The G310R230 model was produced by Red Lion as part of the G3 Series HMIs. The unit has a 10.4" liquid crystal display (LCD) to display graphics and text. The LCD touchscreen on this model has a resolution of eight hundred by six hundred pixels with a screen brightness of 400 cd/m² (candelas per square meter). Two screen types are available for this model, the primary being TFT with the other being SVGA. Unfortunately, information is limited regarding how the SVGA display operator interface can work. 

One key feature of the G310R230 model is the dual Ethernet communication ports. The two ports will either be a 100 Base-TX or 10 Base-T port with the associated jack, which is RJ45 being wired as a network interface card. Please note that when wiring the ports to either a switch or hub, a straight-through cable should be used, but when connecting the network interface card to another network interface card, the best cable type to use is a crossover cable. 

Two independently isolated RS232 ports are available in this model, communication or PGM ports. It should be noted that only one of these ports supports programming, but both can be used to communicate with a PC. No matter what configuration has been chosen for the G310R230 model, the RS232 PGM port can perform master or slave protocols. This model can communicate with another G3 Series HMI or the Modular Controller produced by Red Lion if using a cable with RJ12 ends and a twist in the cabling.

The G310R230 operator interface terminal is the second of the G310R2 panels. How does this panel differ from its predecessor?

The only difference between the G310R230 and its predecessor is the additional dual ethernet capability; other than the added ethernet, the two panels are the same. They both operate on a power supply of 24 VDC, with the nominal wattage being 16 watts. They also both have a USB host and isolated comms. 

The software used with the G310R230 panel is Red Lion's Crimson; if I've never used this software, is it easy to use?

The Crimson software is user-friendly and is often considered the easiest to navigate. The sophistication of the software makes all of the typically complex capabilities of other software, the Crimson, allow for it to be manageable on the G3 devices. Another great thing about this program is that competitors will charge an exponential amount for their programming, which in the long run will be difficult to install the Crimson software is almost effortless to install and self-explanatory. Another great feature of using the G310R230 device with Crimson programming is that it allows for much faster configuration. 

What are the power requirements associated with the G310R230 model?

The power requirements needed to operate the G310R230 model are a Class 2 circuit according to Canadian Electrical Code Part I, CC22.2., a Limited Power Supply according to IEC 60950-1, a Limited-energy circuit according to IEC 61010-1, or National Electrical Code NFPA-70. The G310R230 panel is equipped with an LED backlight. When most backlights go out, they will have to be sent out for repairs, but the G310R230 does not require that so long as it is being used in a non-hazardous location. If the panel is being used in a hazardous location, it must be sent out to be repaired. Allowing the user to replace the backlight themselves makes this unit better suited for users who require quick turnaround time for repairs.
