About the G315C000

The G315C000 model is one of the few 15” Resistive Analog Touchscreen models. The model can only be used in indoor applications and has embossed keys to aid the user during operation. The touchscreen on this device is an active matrix TF screen with 32K color and an XGA 1024 x 768-pixel resolution. 

There are several port types available on the G315C000 model which includes two RS485 ports labeled as A and B, an Ethernet port with a network interface card, a USB port labeled as a type B port, two RS232 ports one being a port A PGM port and the other being port B, the last power or connector on this model is a power connector. The RS232 ports on this device are considered isolated, the port labeled PGM port A is primarily used for either communications or programming with the remaining RS232 port, port B, can only be used for communications. Both ports on this device have the ability to perform slave or master protocols. 

There is an optional CompactFlash socket that can be used on the G315C000 model. The socket on this device is a Type II socket but can accept type I sockets along with the type II cards. When the cards are being used it is suggested that a minimum of four megabytes are used in the socket, with the following cards being recommended:

  • SMART Modular

These cards are highly reliable and are the only recommended cards used with the G315C000 model.

What is the function of the CompactFlash card on the G315C000 model?

 The CompactFlash card is used for storing vital data information. When removing the card to be read on another device, specifically a card reader attached to a PC, all power must be removed to ensure that the user does not get injured and the card does not potentially fault. All information on the card is stored in Windows (IBM) PC that is compatible with a FAT16 file format. The CompactFlash on the G315C000 terminal can also be used for data logging, trending, configuration transfers, and larger configurations. 

Two types of lighting are used for the backlight feature in the G3 series HMIs. What lighting is used with the G315C000 model, and does it enhance or hinder the performance?

The two types of lighting associated with the G3 HMIs are LED and CCFL. The G315C000 model uses CCFL, also known as cold cathode fluorescent tubing. The different lighting type does not necessarily hinder nor enhance the model, as it can still be dimmed when the model is being used in lower light settings. One potential downside of the G315C000 model is that the life on this backlight is shorter than the other G3 HMIs.

There are mixed reviews about the power supply on the G315C000 model, as well as other G3 models, having a power supply of 24 VDC; it must be noted that this model can also operate on a lower power supply if not all features are used.
