About the 9907-170
This device is one of the several units available from the Woodward Inc. series of control units. These units were designed as a series of digital control modules. They are built to be capable of being configured in the field, configured to control specific applications and be able to change that in the future. These units are flexible, built primarily for steam turbine control, but able to control utility turbogenerators and turboexpander models.
This unit is listed as the 9907-170, a standard Woodward 505E microprocessor-based control unit. It operates the steam turbines using one or two of the split-stage actuators to run the inlet steam valves. The 9907-170 is able to operate the single extraction and admission of the steam turbines.
The 505E series is outfitted with menu-based software that is able to instruct the on-site engineers on programming control capabilities for a specific generator or drive application.
Physically, the 9907-170 is equipped with a 32-bit microprocessor unit to process the control capabilities, and then a series of printed circuit boards. Externally, there is a mounting setup attachment, which is able to be mounted within a system network panel. The other external feature is the operator control panel, embedded in the front-facing panel. This control panel displays two lines of text, at 24 characters each. The panel is built to configure the 9907-170 unit’s operational specifications.
