About the 8280-1056
8280-1056 is a digital control unit for redundant load sharing. This unit is one of the available models in Woodward’s 723PLUS Digital Control series, with load sharing done over the company’s digital communications medium, “Control LON.” Redundancy is achieved by using two LON ports, with data repeated on each LON network.
723PLUS model 8280-1056 supports load sharing for up to six engines on up to two buses. For the system to work correctly, a unique LON address is required for each engine. There are four main parameters exchanged via the LON network connection:
- generator kW load in %
- bus tiebreaker status
- generator circuit breaker status
- bus selected either by discrete input E or software setting
Control functions available with this unit include Speed Sensing, Speed Control, Speed Reference, Fuel Limiters (Start Fuel Limiter & Maximum Fuel Limiter), Auxiliary Outputs (three 4-20mA), Generator Control (Isochronous and Droop), Jump Rate Limiter, Alarms, and Load Sharing (via LON).
Speed-sensing on the 8280-1056 control is done by one or two-speed sensors. These sensors can be either magnetic pickups (MPUs) or proximity probes. In the event an overspeed (above 2000 rpm) or underspeed (15 rpm) condition is detected, a speed fault is indicated by LED. There are two types of alarms on the 723PLUS controls, major alarms, and minor alarms. Both overspeed conditions and a failure of both speed sensors will always trigger a major alarm.
More information on the 723PLUS model 8280-1056 control, including I/O details and configurable parameters, can be found in Woodward Application Manual 26310 and Hardware Manual 02877.
