About the 8280-206
Woodward part number 8280-206 is a low voltage unit in the company’s 723 Digital Speed Control series, with an 18 to 40 Vdc (24 or 32 Vdc nominal) power supply rating. This is a DSLC/MSLC Gateway speed control/power generation model. For the high-voltage version, see model 8280-207.
The 8280-206 digital speed control has self-diagnostic features integrated into the unit functions. Diagnostic tests include monitoring of the control’s baseline power supply, memory, and processor.
Set points of this 723 Digital Speed Control unit are programmed and adjusted using the Hand Held Programmer, which is also manufactured by Woodward (part 9907-205). The programmer plugs into one of the 8280-206 serial ports for straightforward, menu-driven access to the control’s set points. These set points are then stored in permanent memory, removing the reliance on external power sources for data retention.
There are two-speed signal inputs on the 8280-206 control, with a 1.0 to 50 Vrms speed input voltage. 723-speed controllers have discrete and analog inputs. The eight discrete inputs have a 10 ms ±15% response time, and the four analog inputs have an accuracy rating of 0.5% of full scale. The same accuracy rating applies to analog outputs on this controller.
723-speed control model 8280-206 is designed for installation in a location that provides an operating temperature range of –40 to +70 °C (–40 to +158 °F) with humidity not to exceed 95%. The acceptable temperature range during storage is –55 to + 105 °C (–67 to +221°F). Woodward 723 Digital Control Product Specification 02759B contains additional environmental information for this controller.
