About the 8280-207
Part of Woodward Governor’s 723 DSLC Compatible Digital Speed Control System for Reciprocating Engines line of products, the 8280-207 is a high-voltage version of the series that manages the load and speed of reciprocating engines in generator set service. The device requires 40 W of control power and can be used in conjunction with a vast array of digital speed control accessories which are also offered by Woodward. A few of these accessories include PC-based Control Interface Software, an analog Load Pulse Unit, and a DSLC control.
Woodward strongly recommends that each system be finely tuned for the user’s specific system due to the fact that component tolerances and installation methods differ between each setup. To assist users with this process, Woodward offers the Watch Window Generic PC interface tool, which is a powerful testing, setup, and troubleshooting tool for the 723PLUS series. It provides a graphical window that facilitates the process, allowing tunable values to be uploaded, downloaded, and saved to file.
Information on the proper wiring of the 8280-207 can be found in Woodward’s 02878 user manual. The manual indicates that all shielded cable has to be twisted conductor pairs, that the braided shield should not be tinned, and that wire exposed beyond the shield should be as short as possible. Users should follow contained instructions as closely as possible to ensure maximal system safety.
