About the 8280-411
Part 8280-411 is a Woodward digital speed controller released in the company’s 723PLUS line. It is designed for use with reciprocating engines in variable-speed applications. This model is the high voltage version (90 to 150 Vdc), a low voltage version (8280-410) is also available. Both versions require 40 W of power.
The 8280-411 is suitable for applications in which there are flexible coupling torsional, as these can be monitored by two proximity switches via the controller’s speed inputs. Alternately, two magnetic pickups (MPUs) may be used instead. If a speed sensor signal is lost, two red indicators on the control will illuminate.
There are several Woodward accessories that are compatible for use with the 723PLUS Digital Speed Controls. Installation and operation information for 723PLUS model 8280-411 is in the Woodward 723PLUS Digital Speed Control for Reciprocating Engines Manual 02882. This includes a comprehensive list of all compatible accessories and their functions, including the handheld programmer used for programming and monitoring this control.
The 8280-411 has optically isolated discrete inputs as well as differential-type analog inputs with extra filtering, reducing the likelihood of speed and load shifts resulting from noise and interference. The 723PLUS controller also has some configurable I/Os, along with three communication ports.
