About the 8280-415
Part 8280-415 Is a Woodward Governor digital speed control with analog load sharing, designed for use with reciprocating engines in generator set service. This unit was released in Woodward’s 723PLUS series, a line of controllers that offer a range of features and functions to suit various applications. This model, the 8280-415, is a high-voltage model operating at 90 to 150 Vdc. An otherwise identical low-voltage model is also available, as are low and high-voltage models designed for low-speed engines at 130 rpm or less.
The 8280-415 is suitable for applications where monitoring of the flexible coupling torsional is necessary, as the two-speed signal inputs support both magnetic pickups (MPUs) and proximity switches. Other inputs on this 723PLUS controller include:
- One for remote load or speed setting
- One for a synchronizer
- One for a kW sensor
- One for output fuel limiting
- An internal speed reference (permitting local control of speed)
8280-415 outputs include:
- Three relay outputs
- An actuator output
- Three analog outputs (configurable)
A LON channel supports Woodward LinkNet input/output nodes to monitor functions, and three serial channels offer a few options for control interfaces. To monitor and program the 723PLUS 8280-415, a Watch Window PC interface or a handheld programmer may be used via serial port J1 (port J2 is Watch Window only). A Modbus master device, such as an HMI, may be interfaced with via port J3. This HMI can be used to issue control commands and to monitor the parameters of the control and engine.
