About the 8280-464
8280-464 is a digital speed control model in the Woodward 723PLUS series. Within the 723PLUS series, the 8280-464 is one of two Industrial Speed/Process Control models designed for use with reciprocating engines in variable-speed applications. This model is the low voltage version, rated for 18 to 40 Vdc with a 7 A nominal current in-rush. For the high voltage version (90 to 150 Vdc, 22 A nominal), see part 8280-465.
Programming, monitoring, adjusting, and control are done through three serial channels using a few control interface options. An HMI, or other Modbus master device, can be used via one port, while another supports the use of either Watch Window (a PC interface) or a Woodward's handheld programmer. Control View software (part number 8928-056) is another PC-based software. A LON channel also supports Woodward LINKnet input/output nodes.
723PLUS model 8280-464 has several analog and discrete I/Os. Some of them are user-configurable, offering some flexibility. The two-speed signal inputs can support either MPUs or proximity switches, though MPUs should only be used when operating speeds provide a minimum 400 Hz magnetic pickup frequency.
The 8280-464 has two alarm relays, which use two LEDs to indicate alarm conditions. 723PLUS Digital Speed Control for Reciprocating Engines—Process Control Installation and Operation Manual 02883 has more info on alarm settings and other configurable parameters of this control.
