About the 8280-501
Part 8280-501 is a Woodward digital control with integrated self-diagnostics and several user-configurable features. This control is part of the Woodward 723 Digital Control series and has many features that are standard on the 723 controls. The 723 control model 8280-501 has an external power supply rating of 18-40 Vdc, making this a low-voltage 723 control. Like other 723 models, this one is in a metal chassis capable of withstanding temperatures up to 70 °C during operation and up to 105 °C during storage.
Woodward unit 8280-501 is designed to govern reciprocating engines in a variety of applications and provides compatibility with several accessories to expand the control’s functions, including load sharing and engine monitoring capabilities. This also includes support for LONTalk-compatible products, such as thermocouples, RTD, and analog and discrete I/Os, via one of the 723 control’s LON communication channels. There are also two serial interfaces on the 723, which can be used for RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 communications.
Even without expanding the control’s inputs/outputs, Woodward 723 model 8280-501 has several standard analogs and discrete I/Os. Some of these I/Os are configurable. Woodward Product Specification 02759 has details on this part of the control.
The 8280-501 module can be used with one of the Woodward Hand Held Programmers, which makes all adjustments needed quick and easy through all of the menus. All of the previous set points on the module will be saved in the permanent memory.
