About the 8280-598
Part 8280-598 is a Woodward speed/performance control for reciprocating engines. In variable speed applications, the 723PLUS ‘598’ can control the engine ignition timing, speed, and air/fuel ratio. Engine and turbocharger speed can be monitored by magnetic pickup (MPU) or proximity switch, as the two-speed inputs are compatible with both. Woodward 723PLUS Digital Industrial Speed/ Performance Control ‘598’ is a low voltage control.
The 8280-598 is compatible with an optional, external Modbus master device, such as an HMI, as well as optional LinkNet modules, as is standard in the 723PLUS speed control system. Additional standard features include two proportional actuator outputs and two relay-driven alarm and shutdown indicators. For details on the full 723PLUS control system, see the Woodward 723PLUS Digital Speed Control for Reciprocating Engines— Performance Control ‘598’ Product Manual 26043.
723PLUS model 8280-598 is a printed circuit board in a sheet metal chassis. During normal operations, this control can handle a –40 to +70 °C (–40 to +158 °F) temperature range with humidity at 95% at +20 to +55 °C (+68 to +131 °F). This control should be mounted in a location that provides protection from vibration and electromagnetic interference. Manual 26043 has more information on mounting location requirements for this device.
Woodward speed/performance controller 8280-598 meets Lloyd’s Register of Shipping Specification EN 50081–2 and EN 50082–2 and is CSA Certified. For full compliance information, see Product Specification 03203.
