About the 5503-279
High-Density Versatile Input Module (HDVIM) 5503-279 has thirty-four channels which are used for two cold junction inputs and thirty-four analog inputs. Ten of the inputs are RTD inputs with the remaining twenty-four being thermocouple inputs. The thermocouple inputs are divided into two groups of twelve, both will be isolated from the control common and the other group of twelve inputs. There is a specific current range for the thermocouple inputs which is 0-24 mA with a configuration of 4-20 mA. Please note that these first thermocouple inputs have to be configured into pairs.
This board does have the capability to be used in a redundant and simplex system. When the 5503-279 board is in the simplex system it will be connected through dual high-density sixty conductor analog cables to two 34Ch HDVIM FTM units. The purpose of the two FTMs is to allow for easy access to all of the inputs on the module.
When this board is using the 4-20 mA inputs it will use a 100-ohm resistor. The inputs of the 5503-279 board will be used with either two-wire self-powered/isolated transducers or loop powered/undergrounds. If these inputs are being used with a non-isolating device it is highly recommended that a loop isolator be used so current paths can be broken.
The main manuals used with this board are the 26166V3 and 26167V1 manuals. The board being used with these manuals indicate that it can be used in MicroNet Simplex, Plus, and TMR Chassis configurations. Within the 26167V1 manual information can be found in chapter 8.8 with several figures that label configuration examples, wiring, and analog interface wiring.
