About the 5501-430
This Actuator Controller Module was manufactured by Woodward and released as part of their NetCon Controller Series. There are several versions available in this series, and the model part numbers indicate the maximum output current capability of the module. The 5501-430 is the 50mA Version of the 2CH Actuator Control Modules in this NetCon series.
The power requirements of the 5501-430 are rated at +5 V @ 0.5 A, +24 V @ 1 A, and the module has a position accuracy rating of 0.25% of full-scale @ 25 °C. It is connected to the motherboard when it is secured into a card guide in the control’s chassis. To disengage the motherboard connectors, the module can be pulled out using two handles, located at the top and bottom. It is important to note that the 5501-430 requires a MicroNet low-density discrete (gray) cable and analog (black) cables should not be used.
With the 5501-430, up to two position feedback devices (LVDT, RVDT) may be used on each actuator channel. This module has several fault detection features, including alarms related to excitation, feedback, and driver errors. Position errors, logic power, microcontroller activity, and the CPU module are also monitored.
There is a red LED on the 5501-430, used to indicate faults in the status of the unit and enable efficient troubleshooting. In the event the controller is not communicating with the CPU module, a solid LED with be visible. If the LED is flashing, it is an indication of an internal problem, and the module should be replaced.
