About the 8200-200
Woodward's 8200-200 is a feature-rich digital overspeed trip device in the company’s ProTech 203 Overspeed Protection series. This system uses three magnetic pickups (MPUs) to detect prime mover speed, sampled every 5 ms, and its built-in frequency generator makes it possible to test each unit one at a time while the prime mover is online. The 8200-200 is one of the 24Vdc input, energize-to-trip models in the series. It has a speed-sensing frequency range of 100Hz to 32kHz and a trip-point frequency range of 250Hz to 25kHz.
This model has remote reset and alarm output for reliable safeguarding against conditions outside of normal parameters. Fast response time is made possible using separate LEDs to indicate problems such as a failed MPU, improperly functioning CPU, or a tripped speed-sensing unit.
The 8200-200 has a touchpad and LCD display. Three separate speed-sensing units are used in this model, each with its own power supply. There is a key lock feature to put all three units into one of two modes: monitor or program. This single key lock method ensures the entire 8200-200 system is set to the same mode simultaneously, easily preventing unauthorized changes.
Details on the model 8200-200 may be found in the Woodward ProTech 203 Overspeed Protection System Installation and Operation Manual 85205 (F), available online.
