About the 8200-202
There are three different power supply versions in the ProTech 203 Overspeed Protection series. Model 8200-202 is the 120 Vac/dc input version of the energize-to-trip models. This Woodward module is a robust, dependable digital overspeed trip device that utilizes a two-out-of-three hardware voting method. The three separate speed-sensing units of the 8200-202 use magnetic pickups (MPUs) to sample the speed every 5 ms, after which they perform individual speed calculations.
Along with the reliability of this hardware voting method, the multi-unit design of model 8200-202 also allows for individual testing of each unit. While one speed-sensing unit is being tested, the other two units remain online and in control. This feature is made possible in part by a built-in frequency generator.
Each of the three units on this overspeed protection device has its own power supply, touchpad, and LCD display. The front panel has LEDs to indicate errors in system functioning.
Model 8200-202 should be installed in a location where it can maintain an operating temperature range of –25 to +60 °C (–13 to +140 °F); is protected from direct sunlight, condensation, and high vibration; and has plenty of ventilation.
