About the 8200-208
Model 8200-208 is an energize-to-trip overspeed protection model in the Woodward ProTech 203 series. This digital device continually monitors prime mover speed for overspeed conditions. Monitoring is performed by three magnetic pickups (MPUs) in three separate, identical speed-sensing units, which are configured for two-out-of-three voting.
The modular design of ProTech model 8200-208 permits normal operations to continue with only two of the three peed-sensing units online, such as during the testing of the units, unit replacement, or in the event of a trip. Separate LED indicators on the front panel of each unit make it easy to identify system errors. Each unit has an LED for MPU or wiring failure, faulty CPU operations, and a tripped unit. There is also a separate alarm output to alert operators if a speed-sensing unit has tripped.
Along with separate LED functional status indicators, the three font panels on this device also each have a touchpad and LCD display. From here, operators can view the actual speed of the individual unit.
All three units of the 8200-208 system are in a single enclosure that is secured with a key lock. Key access is needed to switch between PROGRAM and MONITOR modes. Operations will continue while the system is in PROGRAM mode, though it is recommended this mode is only entered when programming is necessary.
