About the 8237-1596
Model 8237-1596 over-speed detection device from Woodward. It’s part of the Protech-GII series and can work with any size turbine powered by water, gas, or steam. It uses two redundant relays, and two out of three voted architecture. This triple modular design works to sense and safely shut down turbines if they over accelerate in an unsafe manner. Model 8237-1596 is also equipped with Modbus communication and is designed with easy integration in mind. This product is a bulkhead mount that uses high- and low-voltage power inputs. Speed readouts for this safety system are from 4 to 20 mA. Model 8237-1596 is configured with MPU detection in addition to acceleration detection.
With the triple modular design, any module can be repaired when the system is still online. The protective coating on this device keeps it resistant to sulfur contamination. It can be used in class 3C2 environments and is protected in the long term from SO2 and H2S gases. An internal generator in this safety system can perform routine speed checks on each module. The results of these tests will then be stored in the device’s memory. Woodward has discontinued model 8237-1596, but it can still be bought, sold, or repaired through AX Control.
