About the D4-EXDC
D4-EXDC is a local base expansion unit developed by Automation Direct, Facts Engineering, and Koyo. A member of the DirectLogic 405 series, the unit communicates with programmable logic controllers and central processing unit modules of the same series. Expansion units are used to convert secondary PLCs into extra I/O slots for the primary logic controller. Local expansion is the only reason this module is needed.
Similar in appearance to the CPU module, this module installs easily into the first slot of the expansion base. 4, 6, and 8 slot I/O bases are available in the series, allowing the user to select the expansion sizes needed. An external power supply is not required to power the device as it features an integrated supply system. This module supports a 24 VDC power supply, provided by the expansion base. To connect the expansion base to the primary, an additional expansion cable, such as D4-EXCBL-1 or D4-EXCBL-2, is required. These cables can daisy-chain together for optimal system expansion.
Following all outlined installation and storage parameters will prolong the longevity of the device. D4-EXDC is a temperature sensitive device, requiring a climate controlled environment. When installing the device, mount it horizontally. This allows air to freely flow around the device, acting as a cooling agent. While operating, ambient temperatures should be monitored to prevent any unnecessary damages. Temperatures can safely fall as low as 32℉, or 0℃, and raise as high as 140℉, or 60℃. Storage temperatures should also be monitored, even if the device is not in use. These temperatures can safely range from -4℉ to 158℉, or -20℃ to 70℃. Refer to the device datasheet and series manual for detailed installation instructions. Automation Direct and Koyo provided original technical support for the module.
