About the D4-EXDC-2
The Automation Direct Facts Engineering D4-EXDC-2 is a local base expansion unit developed for the DirectLogic 405 series. This module interfaces with programmable logic controllers and their central processing unit (CPU) modules. These units are used only for local I/O expansion purposes only. Devices like this creates extra I/O slots in a secondary PLC that feed directly to a primary PLC’s CPU.
D4-EXDC-2 acts and appears similarly to a CPU module and installs directly into the first slot of the selected expansion base. Different base sizes are available in the series, including 4, 6, and 8 slot controllers. Power supplies for this module are not included in the device. An external power supply of 24 VDC is required for the device to operate. Installing this module into the expansion unit does not automatically connect it to the local base. An additional expansion cable, part numbers D4-EXCBL-1 and D4-EXCBL-2, is required to connect the secondary base to the primary. Daisy-chaining these devices is possible using these cables.
Unnecessary device damages can be prevented by following outlined installation and storage parameters. While mounting the device, be sure to install it horizontally. This orientation will allow circulating air to act as a cooling agent for the device. Storing and operating the device in a climate controlled environment will protect D4-EXDC-2 from its temperature sensitivities. When operating, temperatures can safely fall to 0℃, or 32℉, and raise to 60℃, or 140℉. Storage temperatures should also be monitored, with acceptable ranges falling between -20℃ and 70℃, or -4℉ and 158℉. The device datasheet and series manual contains all installation instructions. Technical support for this module was provided by the original manufacturers.
