About the D4-RS
D4-RS is a serial remote I/O slave module developed by Automation Direct, Facts Engineering, and Koyo. A member of the DirectLogic 405 series, this module interfaces with I/O modules and remote masters of the same family. Remote slaves input data from peripheral I/O devices and send that data to remote masters installed in the logic controller’s CPU module. These remote slave modules install easily into any DL405 base. This module features a 110/220 VAC power supply requirement.
By using the remote slave and master modules, users are given a simpler I/O experience. Wiring costs are reduced as slave modules can be placed closely to their respective I/O devices. D4-RS connects to its master module using a twisted pair cable that provides an RS485 connection with a baud rate of 38.4K. Using these cables, slaves can be up to 3300 feet from its connected master. These cables can be daisy-chained to incorporate more slave modules per master. The maximum number of slave points per CPU module are dependent upon the part used. D4-430 CPUs can support 512 slave points, while higher modules like D4-450 can support up to 1536 points.
Be sure to follow all provided installation and storage parameters to prevent any unwanted damages to D4-RS. Though it can be located away from the controlling PLC, the slave module requires a climate controlled environment. While operating, temperatures can safely fall as low as 32℉, or 0℃, and can raise as high as 140℉, or 60℃. Storage temperatures can also affect the device when it is not in use. These temperatures can range from -4℉ to 158℉, or -20℃ to 70℃. All installation and wiring information can be found in the series manual as well as the device datasheet. Automation Direct and Koyo provided original technical support for this module.
