One of the leading providers of industrial level visual monitoring and scanning devices, Cognex, has developed and produced a series of scanners that are able to read 1-D barcodes, 2-D matrix codes and Quick Response (QR) codes. These scanners and readers fall under the product name of “DataMan,” and are divided into several different classifications based on their hardware specifications, such as with the 150 and 152 models, and the 260 and 262 models. Then, they are divided into several alphabetical designations, due to its software capabilities. There’s the designations of L, the most basic 1-D and 2-D scanning abilities, QL, which is slightly more advanced, and then X, which comes included with the 2DMax software.
The L certification allows for the scanners to successfully read 1-D codes that may have been printed on top of one another, or oriented in an odd manner, and the QL models do as well, but it also includes 1-D codes that may have been printed omnidirectionally, aligned in several different directions. The DataMan models with the X classification are the ones that are not only able to read omnidirectional, oddly oriented, or stacked 1-D codes, but also 2-D matrices and Quick Response codes.
These models are entirely comprised out of solid state components, with an integrated LED light system for the scanner to successfully operate. All of these models include a set of five lights, built in to indicate any changes in the scanner’s status or in its actions.
