The GE MD Exciter Control Board DS3800DMEC1B1B features 7 terminals for attaching additional components to the board, and 2 indicator LEDs. The GE MD Exciter Control Board DS3800DMEC1B1B also is populated with 14 potentiometers, 20 jumpers, 1 20-pin connector, and 1 34-pin connector.

The potentiometers are equipped with dials so that the servicer or installer can easily set the potentiometer to the proper setting. When the original board is received from the factory the dials are set at the default values. These are the settings most often used for the board. However, to achieve another processing value, you can use a testing unit to read the values for the circuit and adjust the dials to refine the board. When you replace the board, you can set the dials for the same values. Best practice is to use a testing device to verify that the dial settings provide the same outcome as you achieved with the original board.

The GE MD Exciter Control Board DS3800DMEC1B1B also is populated with 20 jumpers for configuring the board. The IDs of the jumpers are suffixed with a J and prefixed with an E. The middle section is a numeric value. Some examples are J27E, J28E, and J29E. The jumpers are all 3-pin jumpers. The jumpers all have 2 supported positions. One position is when the jumper is inserted over pins 1 and 2. The other supported position is when the jumper is inserted over pins 2 and 3.  The jumper forms a connection between the 2 covered pins and the signal changes the configuration of the board.
