The plastic connector attached to the end of the ribbon cable contains the 34 separate strands of wire but they are easily disconnected from the connector. To avoid damage, always disconnect the ribbon cable by holding the plastic connector and not the ribbon cable. Carefully pull it out without putting stress on the cable.

This is also true when you remove the board. Do not tug the cable out of the connector by pulling on the board. When you attach the ribbon cable, also use best practices. Align the connector and use your thumb and 1 finger to press it into to place. Visually inspect it to find space between the connectors. If you find space, press the connectors again until the ribbon cable is fully seated.
