About the DS3800HAFA
The GE Regulator Board DS3800HAFA features a modular connector for attachment to a drive and retention levers to hold the board in the drive. The GE Regulator Board DS3800HAFA also is populated with 11 jumpers, and 4 trimmer resistor components. The board also has 1 20-pin connector and 1 34-pin connector.
The trimmer resistors are resistors that can be adjusted. For that reason they are called potentiometers. The trimmer resistors are sometimes called trimpots. The 4 trimpots on the board have a small screws that a qualified technician can use to adjust the resistance or voltage. Only a qualified technician has the tools and knowledge to adjust the trimpots for the specific results the site requires. Each trimpot is part of a specific circuit in the board so it is important to adjust the right trimpot for the desired result.
The technician must have a tester that is calibrated for the task and the settings on the front of the tester must be appropriate, also. Use a small screwdriver to adjust the trimpot as you monitor the tester and stop adjusting when the appropriate reading is achieved. In some circumstances a small amount of clear glue or other agent is dropped on the screw and allowed to harden. This prevents the screw from accidentally moving. However, the glue can be peeled off if further adjustments are required.
The board is also populated with a 800 vdc capacitor. When you remove the board allow 30 seconds for the current to leave the capacitor before you touch the board. A serious shock can occur otherwise.
