About the DS3800HCMB
The GE Universal Communications Processor Board DS3800HCMB is designed for quick installation in the drive. The board features a modular connector on 1 end and retention levers on the other end. The GE Universal Communications Processor Board DS3800HCMB also is populated with a microprocessor and 1 40-pin connector on the surface of the board. The board is populated with 1 amber indicator LED and standoffs. The board is also populated with 3 sockets for electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) modules and 25 jumpers.
The standoffs on the GE Universal Communications Processor Board DS3800HCMB are plastic and do not require use of screws to install a daughter card. Instead, the installer or technician presses the daughter card over the standoff to secure it. To remove a daughter card, the installer lifts 1 corner at a time from the standoff. The standoffs keeps the daughter card from touching the surface of the board and interfering with the components and processing functions. The daughter card is an optional device that is designed for use with the board. It is not a stand-alone device but instead works with the board. It provides features not available on the board and it also provides additional memory, processing, and other optional functionality.
While the standoffs provide a means to physically connect the daughter card and the GE Universal Communications Processor Board DS3800HCMB, the 40-pin ribbon cable carries the electrical and controls signals used by the daughter card. The 40-pin ribbon cable is approximately 7-inches in length and it connects to the 40-pin connector on the board.
