The GE Drive Control Board DS3800HFPG features a modular connector for attachment to a drive and retention levers to hold the board in the drive. The GE Drive Control Board DS3800HFPG also is populated with a microprocessor and multiple erasable programmable read-only (EPROM) modules. The board has 1 34-pin connector that is accessible from the front of the board. It also is populated with test points and 1 40-pin connector on the surface of the board.   

Another component on the board is a transistor to transistor logic (TTL) device. It serves as the interface logic between integrated circuits. The GE Drive Control Board DS3800HFPG controls the major functions of the board and is populated with a microprocessor. The microprocessor uses instructions embedded on the EPROM modules. The instructions are in the form of firmware and programming code. The firmware and programming code are stored on the modules and are supplied from the factory. If updates are available, they can be downloaded to a laptop and written to the modules. However, typically the modules are not updated and when the board is replaced, the same modules are installed on the replacement board.

The replacement GE Drive Control Board DS3800HFPG is delivered with empty module sockets. And it is an easy task to move the modules from the old board to the new board. The sockets have an opening for inserting a screwdriver or other instrument. Rock the screwdriver back and forth to lift the module off the socket. Repeat the action on the other side of the socket.
