About the DS3800HMPK
The GE Microprocessor Board DS3800HMPK is designed for quick installation in the drive. The board features a modular connector on 1 end and retention levers on the other end. The GE Microprocessor Board DS3800HMPK also is populated with 3 red indicator LEDs and 1 amber LED which are visible from the front of the board. The board also is populated with a microprocessor, erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM) modules, and a 34-pin connector. It also is populated with 2 50-pin connectors.
The microprocessor is a heat producing component. The 2 50-pin connectors are adjacent to it and they are attached to ribbon cables. The ribbon cables can block the air flow from cooling off the microprocessor. Excessive heat can damage the microprocessor or degrade the reliability of the microprocessor. It can even cause the drive to shutdown if the heat rises above a threshold. To keep that from happening, install the drive in a location with fresh room temperature air. Avoid installing the drive in a room full of other drives and equipment. The drives and equipment generate heat and without proper management, they can allow heat to build up.
Install fans to dissipate the heat. The powerful fans should be wall mounted to prevent clutter on the floor. Make sure they are in good condition and that you install enough to circulate air throughout the room. If more robust solutions are needed, vent hoods can be installed over the equipment. They draw heat and dust out of the room. Another solution is to remove some of the heat-generating equipment from the room.
