About the DS3800HMPK1L1K
The GE Microprocessor Board DS3800HMPK1L1K is designed for quick installation in the drive. The board features a modular connector on 1 end and retention levers on the other end. The GE Microprocessor Board DS3800HMPK1L1K also is populated with 3 red indicator LEDs and 1 amber LED which are visible from the front of the board. The board also is populated with a microprocessor, erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM) modules, and a 34-pin connector. It also is populated with 2 50-pin connectors.
The microprocessor is embedded on a microprocessor socket. The microprocessor can be replaced on the board. However, the procedure must be performed by a qualified servicer. A tool is available for removing the microprocessor from the board. When you install the replacement microprocessor, evenly space drops of the thermal conducting paste on the surface of the socket. Then align the microprocessor with the appropriate corner of the socket and press it into the socket.
When you replace the microprocessor, you might need to also install updated EPROM modules. The EPROM modules contain the firmware and programming instructions that control the microprocessor. If the microprocessor is a newer version, check to verify if new firmware and programming code is required.
Replacing the modules requires the use of static electricity protection measures. This entails the use of a wrist strap. The wrist strap prevents the buildup of static electricity by providing a grounded surface for the static to drain on to. This grounded surface can be a metal desk leg, a metal stool, or a workbench support.
