About the DS3800HPBC1B1C
The GE Parallel Line Buffer Board DS3800HPBC1B1C is designed for quick installation in the drive. The board features a modular connector on 1 end and retention levers on the other end. The GE Parallel Line Buffer Board DS3800HPBC1B1C also is populated with 1 red indicator LED and 2 amber LEDs which are visible from the front of the board. The board also is populated with 3 jumpers, and multiple capacitors.
Another component on the board is a transistor to transistor logic (TTL) device. It serves as the interface logic between integrated circuits. The capacitors require some special handling and special consideration because they can carry high-voltage electricity. During processing, the capacitors store high-voltage electricity. During a processing cycle, the high-voltage is released. The process of storing and releasing the voltage is repeated multiple times. When the power to the drive is shut off, the capacitors might have high-voltage electricity stored on them. If the servicer touches the board, a serious electric shock can occur. To prevent a shock, it is necessary to wait 30 seconds for the electricity in the capacitors to leave the board. After that amount of time, the board is safe to touch.
Another source of electrical danger is touching the drive components while electrical power is present in the drive. Keep in mind that the drive has more than 1 source of electricity and all sources must be disconnected before beginning a service operation. Some of the power supplied to the drive is ac current and other sources are dc current.
