The GE Universal Memory Board DS3800HUMB1A1A is designed for quick installation in the drive. The board features a modular connector on 1 end and retention levers on the other end. The GE Universal Memory Board DS3800HUMB1A1A also is populated with 1 reset toggle switch and 1 red indicator LED. The board is also populated with multiple electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM) modules and 30 jumpers.

The GE Universal Memory Board DS3800HUMB1A1A is populated with 4 sockets for EEPROM modules. The modules can be written to while installed on the sockets. This makes new code updates easy and quick to apply. For example, if the firmware is causing an error and a fix is available on the newest  firmware version, the new version can be written to the module. To do that the toggle switch must be moved to the position indicated on the surface of the board. When complete, move the toggle switch back to the original position.
