About the DS3800NEPA1C1B
GE manufactured DS3800NEPA1C1B, which is used as a motor exciter power supply, as a component for the Mark IV Speedtronic series. The Mark IV is used for gas and steam turbine control. The Mark IV can be used to sequence turbines and their auxiliaries to allow fully automated startup, shutdown, and cooldown. Turbine protection against unsafe operating conditions is also part of the basic control system built into the Mark IV.
Due to the connection of two Raycom Electronics 44B379508-G02 modules, the DS3800NEPA1C1B tends to be a vertically bulky board. These modules are placed side by side parallel to the short ends of the board. The DS3800NEPA1C1B also uses the following components:
-
One jumper switch. The jumper can be set to NR or the REV.
-
Four integrated circuits.
-
Nine large resistors (orange, white and gold bands) and several smaller resistors.
-
Nine large capacitors and several smaller capacitors.
-
One (male) terminal connector. This is a multi-pin connector.
-
Two straight-pin connectors (male,) one 6-pin and one 7-pin. The first is set in a 2-2-2 pattern and the second in a 2-1-1-3 pattern.
-
Four potentiometers.
-
One thermistor. Otherwise known as a thermal resistor, thermistors lose resistance as they gain heat. They are helpful in circuit protection and voltage regulation.
The DS3800NEPA1C1B is marked for alignment on two sides and drilled for mounting in all four corners. It has four holes offset from the center for the mounting of other modules.
Guidance for installation, repair, and maintenance of the DS3800NEPA1C1B can be found within technical support publications--such as datasheets and manuals-- originally provided by GE.
