General Electric manufactured the DS3800NEPA1D1C as a motor exciter power board for the Mark IV(Speedtronic) series. The Mark IV is designed for steam or gas turbine management. It can protect a turbine system against unsafe operating conditions and can also sequence turbines and auxiliaries for automated procedures (startup/shutdown/cooldown.)

The DS3800NEPA1D1C has significant height, due to the connection of two 44B379508-G02 modules from Raycom Electronics. These are located near the center of the board. The DS3800NEPA1D1C is also built with one jumper switch, which can be set either to 'nr' or to 'rev.' It has four integrated circuits and three straight-pin connectors. One connector is positioned near the center of the board. This has 8 pins and is in a 4-2-2 configuration. The other two connectors are 6- and 7- pins and are in 2-2-2 and 2-1-1-3 configurations. Both are located along one short edge.

The DS3800NEPA1D1C has been built with two black resistors (10w 71Ω 5%,) nine metal film resistors with gold/white/orange banding, and several smaller resistors. It has nine larger capacitors and many smaller capacitors. There are four rotary potentiometers located on the board. There is also one thermistor or thermal resistor. Since thermal resistors tend to lose resistance as they gain heat, they are helpful for circuit protection and voltage regulation.
