GE created the DS3800NGRC1F1F as a component for their Speedtronic, or Mark IV, series. The Mark IV is used for gas and steam turbine management and automates certain procedures such as startup, cool down, and shut down. It can also keep the system running within safe parameters.

There are four communication ports on the DS3800NGRC1F1F, all in the 218A4637 series. This includes two P4-8925 connectors, one P6 8920 and one P6 8927 port. There is also one 6-pin header attached to the board.

Factory-drilled holes are in each corner of the board for mounting options. Alignment markings run on the top edge. The DS3800NGRC1F1F is built with many diodes, capacitors, and resistors. Capacitors are often polyester film with axial leads. The board uses both carbon composite and ceramic covered metal film resistors.

There are twenty-five integrated circuits on the DS3800NGRC1F1F. This includes precision operational 'super gain' amplifiers with silicon monolithic integrated circuits. These chips have high input impedence, low input bias and offset currents, and operate from a wide range of power supply voltages. The board also has voltage comparators that operate with an input current of 150 nA max over temperature and an offset current of 20nA max over temperature. Other chips used on the board include quad 2-input exclusive-OR gates.
