About the DS3800NVCD1D1C

The DS3800NVCD1D1C Conditioning card from GE is a replacement board that fits into the company’s MKIV turbine control system.  This is a Speedtronic system.  GE Speedtronic systems have increased the reliability of gas and steam industrial systems since the 1960s.  However, the Mark IV introduced a breakthrough design that used three independent controllers that all used microprocessors.   This kind of design reduced downtime and increased efficiency because of its ability to continue running even when a fault occurred in any one controller.  Because the Mark IV uses two-out-of-three voting, it remains active as long as two of its controllers can ‘vote’ on what data should be used.  Even when one of the three controllers goes offline, the system continues to function. 

The DS3800NVCD1D1C conditioning card is a single rectangular board that has been pre-drilled for mounting.  Two of these pre-drilled holes are taken up by extractor clips.  Extractors are used to pull modules from their location within a rack when they need to be replaced or when they need maintenance.  But they also help during installation by offering users a safe place to hold on to the board.  

The DS3800NVCD1D1C uses through-hole (TH) mounted components.  This includes resistors, integrated circuits, transistors, capacitors, and diodes.  However, the board also has two larger transistors that are screwed to the board’s surface.  These transistors have been mounted into heat sinks in order to dissipate any built-up heat before it can affect the board’s performance.
