The DS3800XAIB1E1D was made for the Mark IV (MKIV) series which is used for turbine control. The Mark IV system is a part of the Mark series. The Mark series automates the operations of the turbine and protects the turbine from any damage. GE (General Electric) created the DS3800XAIB1E1D and the rest of the Mark series.

More than half of the DS3800XAIB1E1D is occupied by twelve (12) large components. Eight (8) of these components are covered in black plastic. The other four (4) of the components are grey and made of metal. On the other side of the DS3800XAIB1E1D there are ten (10) black connector ports. Six of the connector ports are larger. These contain thirteen (13) male connector pins which are metal. The remaining four (4) of the connector ports are about half the size of the other six. These ports contain ten (10) metal connector pins. A number of various resistors, capacitors and diodes are featured on the DS3800XAIB1E1D. Many of these resistors are small and banded in various colors. Sixteen (16) large resistors are also featured on the DS3800XAIB1E1D. These resistors are brown and banded in stripes of different colors. These bands are white, yellow and red. There are many capacitors on the DS3800XAIB1E1D. Most of these capacitors are very small. The capacitors are blue in color. Twenty-six (26) test points can be found on the DS3800XAIB1E1D. The test points are silver and made in metal. Sixteen (16) of these test points are arranged in two parallel lines of eight (8). Ten (10) more test points are situated in between the ten (10) connector ports.
