In the GE Multilin UR Series and UR PLUS Series catalogue of universal relays, the Digital I/O modules (depending on the number and order code selection) is listed as providing up to 96 contact inputs to a given universal relay with a limit of 250 volts (utility voltage rating). The universal relays are limited to up to 64 contact outputs in a given Multilin relay system. These inputs and outputs are used by the universal Multilin relay for monitoring and control purposes of either equipment found within the end-application system or a different protection application. These Digital I/O modules can come in a variety of forms, which specifies how many inputs and outputs each form has and which type of output they are. For example, a UR-6RH has an 6R order option, which means this specific digital I/O module has two Form-A outputs, 2 Form-C outputs, and 8 digital inputs. This 6R order specification does not come with additional monitoring ability to monitor current or voltage. It is important to look at the different order codes for the digital I/O modules that are contained in a specific relay to determine the number and type of inputs and outputs.
