The 45C230 is a Controller Module created by Reliance Electric. This module may have also been mass-produced under the product lines of Baldor Reliance and Asea Brown Boveri.

The 45C230 is an AutoMate 15E 120/240VAC 50/60 HZ Controller Module. The AutoMate 15E is a small programmable controller. This model is the advanced version of the standard model 15. It has an advanced processor that allows for more detailed functions to be performed. All of the AutoMate systems share a specific programming software. This software is used to program the controller to perform certain functions. Each of the controllers uses a version of the software found on the more advanced AutoMate 40E.

The 45C230’s primary function is to be a relay replacer in a small electromechanical system. This system adds the ability to interface with analog signals and handling four-function math processes that a normal AutoMate 15 cannot handle. It can also use a combination of 64 digital or 16 I/O.  The 45C230 has a 2k x16 non-volatile memory that does not need a battery. It has 736 internal coils and 513 registers. It has an enhanced ladder diagram language with instructional blocks.

The 45C230 is able to access the R-NET network. It can use the network to communicate to other computers or devices on the same network. It is connected to the network using a coaxial cable. The controller can be hooked up to a serial gateway and computer bus cards which will allow for a data transfer speed of 800k Baud.
