About the 45C27
The 45C27 is an R-NET Gateway created by Reliance Electric. This system may have also been produced in the Baldor Reliance and Asea Brown Boveri product lines depending on when it was manufactured.
The 45C27 is meant to be an R-NET Gateway interface Head used on an AutoMate 30/40 system. This is also known as a Process Control Gateway (PC Gateway). This is a 115/230 VAC system. The gateway module connects to the R-NET network and then plugs into a series of Isolation Short Haul Modems before it plugs into a Processor Module which is housed in a Card Rack.
The 45C27’s main function is to communicate to and from processors that are on a coordinated control system through the R-NET network. The 45C27 can function as a standalone communications processor. It can then connect to other devices on the R-NET network using an RS-232, 20mA current loop, or an RS-422 connector. Messages from the other devices get intercepted and converted to R-Net Protocols.
The 45C27 is a large rectangle cube. It has four LED indicator lights on it labeled RECV, XMIT, READY, and POWER. On the front faceplate, it has a female RS-232 port. It also has a replaceable fuse which is 250V AGC 2 AMP. It also has a terminal strip that’s used to connect an interface unit.
For more information please consult the product manuals and guides created by Reliance Electric for the AutoMate system. These manuals should be read before trying to connect the 45C27 to any other type of device to prevent any type of system damage.
