About the 45C311
The 45C311 is a Reliance Electric produced Card Rack Assembly. This rack could have been also sold by Asea Brown Boveri or Reliance Electric depending on what year it was in production.
The 45C311 is a simple metal enclosure that houses AutoMate 30/40 system components. The card rack is considered to be a necessary system component. This rack has an 8-slot setup. This rack is the second smallest rack and thusly provides a little more flexibility with system configurations than the 6-slot model.
If you configure the rack correctly, the system has the ability to perform three basic functions. This system has the ability to be placed in a remote location to be a remote I/O substation. It can also serve as a standalone controller. The final function this system can perform is to communicate to other AutoMate PCs using the R-Net network.
The 45C311’s main purpose is to be a housing component for the cards and power supplies needed to run an AutoMate system. This metal box rack does not come with wiring or a power supply. It has air vents on the top and bottom of the rack that provides airflow to the devices in the rack. The devices can be slid into the open face of the rack and then mounted to the rack using screws. There are places to secure it to the top and bottom of the rack. There are vertically running female card slots on the inside of the rack. There are seven short ones and seven long ones.
