About the 45C316

The 45C316 is a Card Rack created by Reliance Electric. It may have also been sold by Asea Brown Boveri or Baldor Reliance depending on the years it was in production.

The 45C316 was used as a storage assembly for various AutoMate 30/40 Programmable Logic Controllers. This is a basic system component of the AutoMate System. The Card Rack assembly is a mandatory item needed in an AutoMate system.  This is the largest rack in the series, holding 19 card slots. As long as this assembly has all of the necessary cards, it can function as a standalone controller. This setup can also function as a remote I/O substation. It can also be used in the R-NET network to communicate with other AutoMate PCs. The 45C316 allows for the greatest amount of system flexibility because of the sheer number of card slots. This rack supports a 2 or 3-slot power supply if three rack slots are taken up in the process.

The 45C316 is simply a metal enclosure. It does not come with any wiring or a power supply. It is set on its horizontal side and the various cards and power supplies slide in through the open side. The cards are then are mounted into place using brackets and screws. The bottom of the rack has a wire mesh to allow for airflow.
