The 45C409 control processor module, along with the 45C400 logic processor module, is a component that comes with the AutoMate 40X controller module. The AutoMate 40X controller module is used for smaller applications. By using the 45C409 control processor module and the 45C400 logic processor module, the AutoMate 40X controller module will address up to 1024 digital I/O. Every single processor set will be expanded to up to 104K x 16 non-volatile application memory by adding up to two memory expansion cards. All of the processor sets have 8K x 16 non-volatile application memory to be used. All of the AutoMate 40 processors have identical software programming features, ensuring that installation is streamlined, especially for those familiar with the system. The software includes all of the features of the Enhanced AutoMate 30 controllers plus additional instruction blocks to introduce improved communications.

The 45C409 control processor module possesses a Motorola 68000 microprocessor to perform advanced software functions. These advanced software functions such as data conversion, mathematics, ASCII communications, program flow control, and many more functions. In addition to that, the 45C409 control processor module has its own LED status indicator lights and an RS-232 communication port.
