About the 57442
The 57442 is an A-B Data Highway Plus Module created by Reliance Electric. This module could have also been produced by Asea Brown Boveri and Baldor Reliance. None of the manufacturers are still supporting this module, but AX Control does attempt to keep it in stock. For the availability of this item, please call us directly.
The 57442 was created to be a part of the AutoMax Series of Control Systems. This module provides an interface between an AutoMax Distributed Control System and an Allen-Bradley Data Highway Plus Local Area Network. This module allows for mass communication to occur between the different stations on the network. It can hold a maximum of 64 stations on the network. This particular module has the ability to support 57.6, 115.2, and 230 Kbaud transmission speeds at one time.
In order for the 57442 to help facilitate communication between the two different types of systems, it has the ability to duplicate an Allen-Bradley PLC-5. Once the system has a passable facsimile, the module can then use PLC-5 registers and file designations to communicate to other devices. It can finally use the network to send and receive messages through the network. The actual physical transmission over the A-B network occurs using a twisted coax cable that is plugged in on the faceplate of the terminal. This module also has access to registers for observing status updates, controls, diagnostics, and global register data.
The 57442 has diagnostic registers that contain serial transmission errors that have been received from other devices. A memory area is reserved on the module that allows you to send messages about statistic data. On the network, any node that requests this statistic and diagnostic data are allowed to do so.
