About the 57C418
The 57C418 is an A-B Interface Module designed by Reliance Electric. There is a good probability that this model was also sold by Asea Brown Boveri or Baldor Reliance. None of the initial manufacturers are still maintaining the 57C418 and it may be hard to find. AX Control makes every attempt to keep this part in stock. Please consult our website for the status of the 57C418.
Reliance Electric created the 57C418 to be an A-B Interface Module for interfacing with both Allen-Bradley and AutoMax Systems. It allows these two different types of controllers to transmit data between each other. AutoMax processor and Allen-Bradley devices are allowed to make this connection while using A-B specific instructions. These instructions have the ability to fool the Allen-Bradley system into thinking that the 57C418 is actually a PLC-2 or a PLC-3 when it is connected to a serial port. The 57C418 has the ability to either be a matser or a slave on the A-B network.
The 57C418 is a slim card assembly that has a circuit board and faceplate contained in a fortified chassis. The faceplate has several components on it including an RS-232 female connection labeled GATEWAY, two DROP NUMBER thumbwheel dials labeled 1st and 2nd, and two LEDs. One of the LEDs is a green OK indicator and the other is a 7-segment Fault Code indicator. This entire system can be plugged into a card storage rack. Just slide the component into an open slot on the rack and plug it into the female card slots on the rack backplane.
