About the 57C440
The 57C440 is an Ethernet Communication Module produced by Reliance Electric. This module was probably also mass-produced by Asea Brown Boveri and Baldor Reliance. This part is no longer receiving support from any of these companies and may be hard to find. AX Control does try to keep this part in stock though.
The 57C440 is an Ethernet Interface Module that was created for an AutoMax controller system. This component’s purpose was to be available to connect an Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN) to an AutoMax DCS. In making this connection, the 57C440 serves as a way for dynamic ethernet functions to happen within the AutoMax system. The module makes use of a combination of fiber optic broadband modems and wired transceivers. An ethernet connect has the power to provide high-speed access to other devices on the same network.
The 57C440 is typically mounted to an AutoMax card rack assembly. This rack must have at least one processor on it and each rack can house as many as two ethernet communications modules. You can physically attach the module to the rack using the card slots that are located on the rack’s backplane. You can then fully secure this device into place using mounting brackets found on the rack and faceplate. This module is slim and has very few components on its faceplate. It has one LED light on it that is labeled CARD OK and an RS-232 communications port. This port is a female plugin and is labeled TRANSCEIVER.
