The main function of the O-57414- Modbus Interface module is to connect the AutoMax and the Modicon equipment together using an RS-232 link. This link utilizes the Modbus communication protocol. The O-57414- Modbus Interface module turns up to four AutoMax processors into one Modicon 584 lookalike, which is viewed from the RS-232 link. The O-57414- Modbus Interface module has the ability to be inserted and secured in any slot within an AutoMax rack, so long as it has at least one AutoMax processor placed inside of it.

The O-57414- Modbus Interface module has a Z80A microprocessor, which is rated at 4 MHz. This microprocessor is designed to connect to one of the module’s dual memory ports, while the other port is meant to interface with the AutoMax rack backplane. In addition to that, the O-57414- Modbus Interface module has a watchdog timer that is turned on whenever the power to the module is activated.

On the faceplate of the O-57414- Modbus Interface module, there is a seven segment LED display which shows the user error codes, if relevant. There is also a 25-pin D-shell connector on the faceplate which supports the RS-232 compatible serial port. In addition to that, there are two thumbwheel switches that are used to set the device number by decimal point.
