The O-57423- Common Memory module is a required product if your AutoMax rack has more than one processor module connected with it. In this situation, you will need to connect the O-57423- Common Memory module into slot 0 of the AutoMax rack. The O-57423- Common Memory module stores the configuration data that will be shared among processors. This configuration includes the definitions of the physical I/O. This process will free the processor module memory for important application tasks. In addition to that, the O-57423- Common Memory module can arbitrate the processors’ access to the bus.
Incorporated within the O-57423- Common Memory module, you will find the battery-backed RAM for data storage, a system watchdog for multiprocessing, and bus arbitration logic. These features become noticeable to the operator whenever the module is connected to slot 0 of the rack. The O-57423- Common Memory module, when connected to this slot, has 256 kilobytes of memory. This module also contains a supercapacitor protect and an on-board lithium battery. In the event that the O-57423- Common Memory module loses power, this on-board lithium battery will maintain the contents of RAM for a minimum of 600 days.
The faceplate of the O-57423- Common Memory module has two green LED status indicators. The top LED is the “BAT.OK” light, which indicates the status of the on-board battery. The bottom light is the “SYSTEM WATCHDOG” light, which indicates whenever the module is in the rack’s slot 0 and has passed its power-up diagnostics.
