About the DC1-70U
Reliance Electric manufactures DC1-70U, a standard NEMA 12 DC1 controller. This basic speed control unit is completely enclosed and includes operator controls. The controller must be serviced with the power ON. Hazardous voltage exists, so the user must exercise extreme caution. Basic features of all controller models include provisions for remote start and/or remote stop, 50 or 60 cycle power without modification, motor overload protection by an internal motor thermostat, a full-wave, half-controlled armature form factor, unidirectional operation with coast-to-rest stop, a half-wave field supply for shunt wound D-C motors, armature current scaling with a reconnectable jumper for the horsepower rating, short-circuit protection by incoming line fuse, and line transient protection be metal oxide varistor and RC circuit.
To install the controller, route power and control wiring through the conduit openings that are provided in the bottom of the enclosed controller. To access the top mounting slot, remove the fuse cap. Mount the controller with the fuse on top in in a vertical, upright position. Mount the flat plate design with the fuse on the right side. Using the Reliance metal hub and plug, seal the conduit entries of the enclosed controller. Then replace the fuse cap. After the controller is installed, the user can install the motor as part of the DC1 drive. In order to minimize unnecessary motor loading, ensure that coupled applications have proper shaft alignment with the driven machine or that belted applications have proper sheave/belt alignment. Follow all manual instructions with regard to installing the motor.
