About the DC2-98U
The Reliance Electric DC2-98U is a single phase DC motor controller. This continuous duty controller converts inputted AC power into adjustable DC power. This conversion allows for better speed and torque control of the motor. The reconnectable AC power line supports two input voltages, resulting in differing controller outputs. Inputting 115VAC produces 1.0 horsepower and 90VDC, while inputting 230VAC outputs 2.0 horsepower and 180VDC.
Improvements on the functionality of the controller are integrated into the system. Armature form factor improvement stems from the full-wave, half-controlled armature voltage rectifier paired with the back diode. A coast-to-rest stop feature is included with the unidirectional operation of the controller. Shunt wound DC motors have a supply created from a half-wave field. Motor overload prevention is included with the integrated internal thermostat. DC2-98U features a switch jog function, compatible with local or remote requirements. A remote start, stop, run, and jog interface further highlights this controller.
This controller offers a variety of speed control options. The operator can adjust current limits as well as adjust the minimum and maximum motor speeds. A number of instruments control motor speed adjustments. A motor mounted DC tachometer as well as a potentiometer are featured motor speed control functions. This controller features a FORWARD/OFF/REVERSE selector switch, creating a dynamic braking action. The detent feature of the switch reverses the direction of rotation when placed into the ‘OFF’ position. When applied with the dynamic braking action, these features reduces the risk of plug reversing the motor.
DC2-98U is housed in a NEMA 4/4X/12 enclosure, protecting it from harsher climates. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor usage, the ambient temperature of the controller’s environment should be maintained between 0℃ and 40℃, or 32℉ to 104℉.
