About the 9101-1079
The 9101-1079 is an External Passive Shunt Resistor for a BRU-200 series system. It was initially produced by Reliance Electric but was possibly also sold by ABB and Baldor Reliance.
The 9101-1079 has a continuous shunt power of 200 watts and a peak shunt power of 6000 watts. This module is used when a drive needs external power dissipation because the internal shunt has exceeded its maximum allowed inertial load. Once the voltage is reduced, the shunt will turn off. The passive shunt typically releases a lot of heat and as such, any type of materials or devices above it should be protected by a metallic plate. It is important to make sure that the temperatures around the shunt do not go above +50 degrees Celsius. Only one passive shunt should be used per drive.
The 9101-1079 should be mounted onto a flat surface like a back wall or onto the plate of an enclosure. On the right short side of the module is a mounting bracket. This part must be in a dry, clean environment that is free of oil and coolant mist, conductive materials, and corrosive chemicals. Nothing should be mounted behind this module. This module weighs 1.1 kg and is 218.4 mm long, 132 mm tall, and 77.5 mm thick. It requires a 4.5 amp 600 VDC fuse that is located on the bottom of the module. The fuse slides into a slot that can be accessed by unscrewing a cap. There are also air circulation vents on the bottom and top of the passive shunt.
