About the 20FN4032
20FN4032 is a DC motor controller from the FlexPak 3000 series, created by Reliance Electric. The controller is non-regenerative and requires an input of 460 Volts AC. It has a power limit of 20 HP. The controller should be operated in an environment below 45°C if mounted in a cabinet and 55°C if mounted on a chassis. This particular motor controller has a full load rated RMS A-C line current of 31 amperes and a DC armature current limit of 73 amperes at 240 VDC and 35 amperes at 500 VDC. The rated field current is 15 amperes and 10 amperes at 150 VDC and 300 VDC respectively. The power supply capacity is 5000 on 460 volt controllers. The controller KVA is 27. Further information on voltage and current limitations for the controller can be found in the data sheet in the user instruction manual, or on the driver’s identification plate.
In addition to an LCD user interface on the controller, there are various analog and logic inputs and outputs that allow for integration and operation of the controller and associated motor. A critical input for successful operation of the controller is the DC tachometer feedback, provided to one of the analog inputs. This input is able to operate with a variety of tachometers. However, it is necessary to ensure that the tachometer input does not exceed 250 VDC or 275 VAC. As a result, the maximum RPM of the motor, and the voltage to RPM ratio of the tachometer must be carefully evaluated to ensure that maximum rotation does not exceed the maximum voltage input.
